Vice President Kamala Harris will journey to Africa later this month, her workplace introduced Monday, changing into essentially the most senior Biden administration official to go to the continent.

Her journey comes because the administration seeks to bolster its relationships with African nations, as opponents like Russia and China have made inroads within the area.

Harris is scheduled to go to Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia in a historic journey, as the primary Black feminine vp, and can maintain bilateral conferences with presidents from all three nations. Second gentleman Doug Emhoff will be a part of her on the journey.

In an announcement, Harris’ press secretary Kirsten Allen mentioned the vp’s journey will “strengthen the USA’ partnerships all through Africa and advance our shared effort on safety and financial prosperity.”

She makes the journey weeks after first woman Jill Biden returned from her journey to Africa.

“All through the journey, in partnership with African governments and the non-public sector, the Vice President will advance efforts to increase entry to the digital financial system, assist local weather adaptation and resilience, and strengthen enterprise ties and funding, together with by way of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the financial empowerment of ladies,” Allen wrote.
